KATHMANDU: Participants of a programme organised on the occasion of the 21st Anniversary Day of the Nepal Press Union here in the Capital, on Saturday, expressed concern over the professional and physical security of the journalists of late.
They have stressed on the need of struggling besides their profession to empower the democracy; claiming around 80 cases of attacks on press were recorded in the last two weeks.
The participants said the latest political condition the democracy and press freedom is at the verge of losing their importance that the journalists have to report giving emphasis on democracy.
The latest attack on press freedom has raised the question over the political parties and other social and ethnic organisations and the participants stressed on the need for writing on the democratic ground.
Former Presidents duo of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists Tara Nath Dahal, Dharmendra Jha, Secretary Jagat Nepal, Union's President Kiran Pokhrel, General Secretary Shiva Lamsal, former president Kulchandra Wagle, among others had put forth their views during the programme. RSS:
