DHANGADHI: A diarrhoea patient Haridevi Dhami (65) of Dhangadhi municipality-2, Santoshi Tole died for want of medicine at Seti Zonal hospital on Thursday as with the regular bandh for the past 28 days the hospital and almost all other health facilities of the Far-west region have run out of life saving drugs, leaving patients completely at the receiving end.
Seti Zonal hospital has run out of saline for treating the diarrhoea patients.
This situation prevails in many health facilities of the region. According to Jayananda Jaisi, section officer at the Sugarkhal health post of Kailali, patients are now forced to return empty-handed without getting any basic medicine.
Health Inspector Krishnadev Joshi of the Dododhara Primary Health centre said, “Though we have been bringing necessary medicine from India they are not enough,” The situation is very critical as almost all health facilities of the hilly and remote areas have run out of all sorts of drugs.
Pharmacies in Dhangadhi have reported shortage of drugs. Owing to the regular bandh they have been unable to replenish their stores.
Medicines for Kailali and the entire Far-west are supplied from Dhangadhi, but with the scarcity of medicine in Dhangadhi itself, we cannot imagine the condition in remote and hilly districts, argued Drugs Entrepreneurs Association, Kailali, Chairperson Naresh Shrestha.
Meanwhile, district public health office of Kailali has claimed though it has enough medicine and is preparing to send them to the 43 health facilities of the district, it has failed to do so owing to insecurity. Himalayan;
